Five-time world sport climbing champion Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic made an emphatic return to the IFSC World Cup circuit with a victory in Chamonix, France, on Sunday (10 July).
None of the men secured a top in the final, with Ondra coming within a few centimetres of claiming an outright victory.
Ondra finished on top of the podium with a score of 39+, with Japanese climber Homma Taisei finishing in second place. Slovenia’s Luka Potocar had to be content with the bronze medal with 29+.
Earlier, in the women’s competition, Slovenian Olympic champion Janja Garnbret underscored her class, claiming a third consecutive lead gold medal at the IFSC World Cup. Garnbret won her her 51st World Cup medal to highlight her absolute dominance in the sport.
Four women reached the top, with Garnbret clinching a third back-to-back victory on countback. She topped the wall in the qualification round, the semi-finals, and the finals to secure the gold medal.
“I climbed with a bit of caution because I knew I had to top the route, but it was easy,” Garnbret said.
Italy’s Laura Rogora finished in second place, with reigning lead world champion Chaehyun Seo of South Korea earning the third step on the podium.
