A relative late convert to track racing, Ross Edgar's talent was quickly spotted and he was chosen to train at the UCI's sprint school in Switzerland. Although he was born in England he has Scottish parentage and it was in Scottish colours that he won his first senior medals. A bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in the team sprint was followed four years later by a full set of medals at the 2006 version which included gold as part of a Scottish sprint team which also included Chris Hoy and Craig MacLean. He graduated to be a regular member of the Great Britain set-up and won his first World Championship medals in 2007 with a silver medal in the team sprint and a bronze in the keirin. Edgar repeated his silver medal performance at the 2008 Worlds but did not race in the team sprint at the Beijing Olympics. He concentrated instead on the keirin and, as teammate Chris Hoy powered to victory, Edgar outsprinted the rest of the field to win the silver. Edgar claimed a third successive silver medal as part of the team sprint at the 2009 World Championship and has remained a member of the team in the approach to the 2012 Games. He has also been three-times national champion in the individual sprint event.
