Built in 2012 and home to one of France’s leading football clubs in Lille Olympique Sporting Club (LOSC), Stade Pierre-Mauroy is a modular multi-sports showcase with a spectacular design. Located in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, it enables the Hauts de France region and the European Metropolis of Lille, the country’s fourth largest city area, to benefit from an outstanding facility that can host a range of cultural and sporting events throughout the year.
In addition to its design features, the stadium includes a range of technological innovations, including a roof that enables the venue to switch from an open stadium to a closed facility in just 30 minutes. Thanks to its modular design and adaptable layout, Stade Pierre-Mauroy has hosted international competitions for several sports since it was built, in addition to the home matches of LOSC football club. Following the Davis Cup tennis finals in 2014 and 2017, several matches from the Euro 2016 Football Championship, the European Basketball Championship in 2015 and the World Handball Championship in 2017, Stade Pierre-Mauroy will stage the handball tournaments during the Paris 2024 Games. The stadium has also hosted concerts by global stars, including Rihanna, Johnny Hallyday and Depeche Mode.
Legacy
Following the Games, Stade Pierre-Mauroy will continue to be an ultramodern venue enabling communities across Lille to benefit from a modular complex that can host sports and cultural events all year round, including the home matches of LOSC football club, international competitions for several sports and concerts by global stars.
