X Games Chiba 2024: Nyjah Huston third in men's best trick, record on hold

The Paris 2024 bronze medallist finishes behind Ike Keyaki and Cordano Russell as the American stays on 15 X Games golds, still needing one more to set a new all-time record.

Nyjah Huston will have to wait another day before he can claim his next piece of skateboarding history.

The American finished third in the men’s street best trick at X Games Chiba 2024 on Saturday (21 September), behind Japan’s Ike Keyaki and Cordano Russell of Canada.

Huston remains on a career 15 gold medals at the X Games, leaving him in a tie with Shaun White (snowboard, skateboarding) and Garrett Reynolds (BMX).

Huston, who is coming off winning his first Olympic medal (bronze) at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this summer, qualified first this morning for the men’s street final on Sunday when he has another chance to take the all-time record for golds.

Onodera Ginwoo, the defending men's street champion here, was fourth.

X Games Chiba 2024: Gui Khury wins men's vert

Gui Khury netted the first gold medal of X Games Chiba 2024 by winning the men’s skateboarding vert title with a run of 93.33, a first for the Brazilian.

Khury, still only 15, tied the X Games record for most medals won by a teenager (10) and was followed by Inomata Soya of Japan (90.00) after four runs, with Paris 2024 Olympic men’s park silver medallist Tom Schaar filling out the podium with 89.00. Schaar has also qualified first for Sunday's park final.

Ten-year-old Japanese wonder Kawakami Ema was last in the 10-man field (34.66) in just his second X Games apperance, his first on home soil.
