Coco Gauff outclassed Ons Jabeur 6-0, 6-1 to launch her WTA Finals campaign in style on Monday (30 October).

It was 19-year-old Gauff's first career WTA Finals win after going winless in both singles and doubles last year in Fort Worth, Texas. She is the first American teenager to win at the competition since Venus Williams in 1999.

In Cancun, Mexico, third seed Gauff won the first set in a swift 23 minutes, during which the US Open champion dropped all of nine points.

A rain delay broke up the match after Gauff took the opening game of the second set. When play resumed, Jabeur held serve to win her first game - and what would turn out to be her only game.

Gauff quickly regained momentum from that point on, dismissing her Tunisian opponent in 57 minutes and improving to 4-2 lifetime against Jabeur.

Gauff will next take on No. 2 and French Open winner Iga Swiatek, who had to claw back from 5-2 down in the first set to beat Wimbledon queen Marketa Vondrousova 7-6(3), 6-0.
