American tennis star Coco Gauff is in the semi-finals at the 2023 China Open in Beijing, after defeating world number six Maria Sakkari 6-2, 6-4 on Friday (6 October).

The 2023 US Open champion got off to a flying start breaking her Greek opponent's serve twice to go up 4-0 in the first set.

Sakkari showed a little more resistance after that but not enough to stop the 19-year-old American taking the set.

The second set was a tighter affair until Gauff broke Sakkari's serve to go up 3-2. She went on to close out the match after 80 minutes.

Gauff is now on a 16-match winning streak, this year's longest on Tour so far.

She will face world number two Iga Swiatek of Poland in the semi-finals.

The four-time major singles champion beat France's Caroline Garcia 7-6, 6-7, 1-6 in their quarter-final encounter.

The China Open 2023 concludes on Sunday 8 October.
