Who currently holds the top spot in the Women’s Singles Tennis World Rankings?
After winning her third Grand Slam title at the US Open, Aryna Sabalenka moved ahead of Iga Swiatek at the top of the world rankings following her third title in Wuhan.
Swiatek, now working under Belgian coach Wim Fissette, made her return to action after the US Open at the WTA Finals in Riyadh but failed to make it out of the group stages. The tournament was won by Coco Gauff who avenged her defeat to Sabalenka in the Wuhan semi-finals before beating Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen who is now up to five in the rankings.
Gauff had slipped to six in the world following her unsuccessful US Open title defence, but victory in the WTA 1000 event in Beijing helped her move back up to three.
A disappointing Asian swing and WTA Finals saw US Open runner-up Jessica Pegula slip to seventh in the rankings with Roland-Garros and Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini up to a career-high four. Like Swiatek, Elena Rybakina returned to action in Riyadh and missed out on the semi-finals.
Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova made the last four in Riyadh but went down to Zheng in straight sets. That showing did, however, see her return to the top 10.
