Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka will make their grand slam tennis returns at the 2024 Australian Open, according to organisers.

Nadal had previously said that the 2024 season would be "probably my last year" playing tennis, with the Paris 2024 Games a target, but the Spaniard will also be hoping to add to his 22 major titles in Melbourne, having missed the much of the 2023 season, including the French Open at Roland Garros, after surgery following a hip injury suffered in Melbourne last January.

Former champion Osaka will return to the court after maternity leave, having given birth to daughter Shai in July. The tournament director Craig Tilley announed on Wednesday (11 October) that the Japanese Olympian would be joined in the Australian Open women's singles draw by fellow mothers Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber.
