Canada's swimming sensation Summer McIntosh continued to impress at the 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as she recorded her third junior world record in as many days.

The 16-year-old added the 200m individual medley mark to her name on Saturday (4 March), finishing in 2:08.08 and beating her previous time of 2:08:70, which she swam at the Commonwealth Games in 2022. This time also represents a new Canadian record.

McIntosh beat Katie Ledecky in the 200m freestyle earlier in the gala, ending the seven-time Olympic champion’s nine-year winning streak. The Canadian finished in 1:54.13 breaking her country's national record too.

Her first record in the meeting came in the 200m butterfly with a time of 2:05.05.

“Even though I try not to focus on the records too much, it’s very cool. I’m just going to keep pushing and practising,” McIntosh told World Aquatics in a post-race interview.

McIntosh made her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 at 14 years old and finished fourth in the 200 metre freestyle. She won her first world titles one year later at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest.

With Paris 2024 around the corner, the Canadian swimmer is looking set for her second Olympic Games.
