Sporting world pays tribute to Pelé "The Eternal King"

The Brazilian football legend is the only three-time FIFA World Cup winner and became a global football icon, with many of the top names in global sport paying tribute to his greatness on social media in the hours after his death.

Pelé was known as "The King", the greatest football  player of his generation, the only man to win the FIFA World Cup three times.

The reaction following his death on Thursday (29 December), has shown just what a global icon the man born Edson Arantes do Nascimento became during his 82 years.

From his club sides Santos in Brazil and New York Cosmos of the North American Soccer League, to the Seleção Canarinho national team, Pele drew crowds and spread the beautiful game across the world, before stories and video clips of his talents helped share his greatness long after his retirement from the sport.
