Mikaela Shiffrin secured a Giant Slalom double in Semmering on Wednesday (28 December), with her second GS race win in as many days at the venue in Austria.
American alpine skiing legend Shiffrin was second fastest after the first of the two runs and made a mistake towards the end of her race but did enough for victory.
Switzerland's Lara Gut-Behrami was the last skier to go, but also made an error and finished in second place, 0.10 seconds slower than Shiffrin's combined time of 2:03.51.
Marta Bassino of Italy edged out compatriot Federica Brignone for the last podium place. Bassino, who also finished third on Tuesday, leads the Giant Slalom season standings on 300 points, with Shiffrin on 260.
The American extended her lead in the overall race for the crystal globe. She has 775 points from all the disciplines in 2022/23. Closest rival Sofia Goggia has 470 and isn't competing in these technical races in Austria. Petra Vlhova of Slovakia is in third on 456 after she finished seventh today.

The victory was Shiffrin's 79th in FIS World Cup races, moving her 3 adrift of retired compatriot Lindsey Vonn who holds the women's record on 82. The all-time record is 86 from Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark.
She'll have a chance to complete a treble on Thursday, in the slalom race at the same location.
