Becoming an NBA All-Star and winning a medal at the Olympic Games are two of the highest honours a men’s basketball player can achieve.

An NBA All-Star selection is done by combining fan votes, player votes and media votes and is widely regarded as a career-defining achievement while making the podium representing your country at an Olympic Games signifies excellence at the highest level.

Olympic medallists were present in the very first NBA All-Star game in 1951 with four participants also basketball gold medallists from the London 1948 Olympic Games.

All men’s US Olympic basketball teams without exception since 1948 have had players that at some point in their career had been or were going to be NBA All Stars.

The NBA All-Star with the most Olympic medals overall is Carmelo Anthony who has won four Olympic medals (three gold and one bronze between 2004 and 2016). Anthony is also the first-ever NBA All-Star to win three Olympic gold medals with the second being Kevin Durant at Tokyo 2020.

The NBA All-Star with the most Olympic appearances is Spain's Pau Gasol who made five Olympic Games beginning with his debut at Athens 2004.

The Olympic medallist with the most NBA all-star selections is LeBron James - two Olympic golds and one Olympic bronze - with 20 selections from 2005 to 2024.

The only Olympic champion not from the USA to also be an NBA all-star is Argentina's Manu Ginobili.
