Olympic champion Karsten Warholm looks more than ready for next month's World Athletics Championships in Budapest.
The Norwegian stormed to a Diamond League record time of 46.51 in the men's 400m hurdles on Friday evening (21 July) in Monaco, easily beating 2022 world champion Alison dos Santos of Brazil (47.66).
Warholm's time was a world lead for 2023 and the second-fastest time of his career with only his world record 45.94 in the Olympic final at Tokyo 2020 in 2021 being quicker. The time was also the fourth-fastest in history. American CJ Allen was third at 47.84.
An aggressive Warholm flew out of the blocks in lane seven with the Brazilian trying to stay with him for the first half of the race.
But dos Santos faded as the Norwegian continued to pour it on at the front, letting out a triumphant yell and hoisting his arms above his head after the win.
