Title holder Sky Brown out of WST Rome Park 2023 World Championships with leg injury

The 15-year-old British skateboarder was due to defend her crown from earlier this year, but posted photos showing her wearing a cast on her lower left leg.

World park skateboarding champion Sky Brown ruled herself out of the WST Rome Park 2023 World Championships on Sunday (1 October) due to injury.

In a post shared to Instagram, the 15-year-old Briton said she would not be making the trip to Italy alongside photos of her wearing a cast on her left ankle.

"Unfortunately can’t make it to Rome. I had an accident, it happens though and it’s a real part of the thing I love called SKATEBOARDING," Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist Brown wrote in the caption under the photo.

"I’m gonna miss competing in this one, and most of all I’m going miss skating and making Memories with friends. Don’t worry guys, I’m gonna be back soon, I love you all."

Since the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifying process started Brown has been in superb form, topping the podium at the Sharjah World Championships and in San Juan, Argentina.

Her absence from the third qualification stop opens the door to the rest of the field, but her fellow competitors were quick to wish her a speedy recovery.

Fellow Olympian Yndiara Asp wrote in reply to the news. “Much love Sky! Gonna miss you out here, see you soon!”

Yosozumi Sakura, who beat Brown to Olympic gold in Tokyo, said, "I miss Sky not being here. Come back soon."

Street skate star Nyjah Huston, who recently recovered from his own anterior cruciate knee ligament injury, added, "Part of the game. Heal up fast."

Huston's perennial rival and Tokyo 2020 gold medallist Horigome Yuto added, "Get well soooonnnn."
