India will take on Australia in a three-match women’s T20 cricket series at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, starting from Friday.
All matches in the India-W vs Australia-W T20 cricket series will be played at the same venue and will start at 7:00 PM IST. Live streaming and telecast will be available in India.
The Indian women’s cricket team, which won the gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in September, will come into the T20I series on the back of a 3-0 ODI series loss to Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
India, however, did beat Australia by eight wickets in the one-off Test at the DY Patil Stadium before that to record their first victory over the Aussie women in Test cricket.
The India vs Australia head-to-head record in women’s T20Is heavily favours the Aussies, who have won 23 of the 31 matches between the two teams. India have won seven while one ended with no result.
Interestingly, India’s last win over the Aussies in the women’s T20I format came at the same DY Patil Stadium in December 2022. After both teams managed scores of 187 in their allotted 20 overs, India won the contest in the Super Over with Renuka Singh successfully defending the 20 runs Indian batters managed in the tie-breaking over.
The last time the two teams met in the shortest format was in the semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup 2023 in Cape Town, South Africa. Harmanpreet Kaur scored a half-century in that match but India lost the contest by five runs.
Harmanpreet is the captain of the Indian T20 team for the upcoming series while Smriti Mandhana is her deputy. Alyssa Healy will captain the Australian women’s cricket team while Tahlia McGrath will be her deputy.
India lost to England 2-1 in their last T20I series, played at the Wankhede last month.
