Commonwealth Games 2022 swimming, live streaming: Sajan Prakash, Srihari Nataraj aim to make a splash - full schedule
The four-member Indian swimming squad at CWG also comprises Kushagra Rawat and Advait Page.
Indian swimmers will be keen on a podium finish at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham after they returned empty-handed in the last edition at Gold Coast 2018.
A four-member Indian swimming team comprising Sajan Prakash, Srihari Nataraj, Kushagra Rawat and Advait Page will vie for the medals at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre in West Midlands, England. The swimming competition — comprising 52 events, including para sports — will start on Friday.
Tokyo 2020 Olympians Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj will compete in butterfly and backstroke events. Select swimming events will be live streamed.
The 28-year-old Sajan Prakash from Kerala was the first Indian swimmer to breach the Olympic A qualification time at the Sette Colli Trophy in Rome in 2021. He clocked 1:56.38, a national record in the 200m butterfly event, to make the cut for Tokyo 2020.
A shoulder injury soon sidelined him before he made a return to the pool at the 19th FINA World Championships in April earlier this year where he failed to progress beyond the heats.
Srihari Nataraj from Bengaluru will hope to fire on all cylinders in his second CWG appearance after winning gold in the 50m and 100m backstroke events at the Singapore National Swimming Championships 2022.
Delhi boy Kushagra Rawat will appear in his maiden CWG. The youngster holds the 400m freestyle national record, set at the 2020 NSW State Championships in Australia — clocking 3:52:75. He will compete in the 200m, 400m and 1500m freestyle at Birmingham 2022.
Advait Page from Madhya Pradesh is another debutant at CWG. The youngster will compete in the 1500m freestyle event. Last year, he set a national record in the category by clocking 15:23.66 in a meet in the United States.
