Skateboarding Street World championships 2022 in 2023: 12-year-old Chloe Covell leads skaters through to quarterfinals

Brazil's Pamela Rosa, Mariah Duran of Team USA and Dutch skater Roos Zwetsloot join the 12-year-old Australian in punching their ticket to the next round of the World championships in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Australia’s Chloe Covell put down a statement 83.15 run to become the top skater through to the women’s quarterfinals at the 2022 Street skateboarding World championships in 2023 on Wednesday (1 February).

A total of 81 athletes hit the Aljada skate park under the midday Emirati sun but only 27 could progress to the next phase of the competition taking place on Friday (3 February).

The 12-year-old from New South Wales who enjoyed a breakout season in 2022, was one of four Australians to advance revealing the rise of country within the discipline. She was joined in the top 10 by her compatriot 16-year-old Haylie Powell.

Team Japan was also out in force with teen skaters Uemura Aoi, Yoshizawa Coco and Nakajima Nonoka finishing in second, third and 13th respectively.

Olympic ranking points are at stake at this event. Among the Tokyo 2020 Olympians through and hoping to make a second appearance at the Games for Paris 2024 were Brazilian Pamela Rosa, United Sates' Mariah Duran, France's Charlotte Hym and Dutch duo Keet Oldenbeuving and Roos Zwetsloot.

The 27 skaters successfully into the quarterfinals will join up with the five pre-seeded skaters who skipped the open qualifier thanks to the Olympic World Skate Ranking.

Those still to enter the competition are: (1) Nakayama Funa, (2) Nishiya Momiji, (3) Oda Yumeka, (4) Akama Rizu and (5) Rayssa Leal.
