The United States women's basketball team will go for its fourth successive World Cup title after dismantling Canada 83-43 in the semi-finals of the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup in Sydney, Australia on Friday 30 September.

Captain Breanna Stewart led all scorers with 17 points and eight rebounds while A'ja Wilson contributed a double-double performance, 15 points and 12 rebounds as the US dominated their Canadian rivals.

The defending champions exploded out of the blocks going 15 points unanswered before wrapping up a 27-7 lead in the first period.

From there, the US didn't look back.

A 45-21 lead at half-time was then blown out to a 38-point gap by the end of the third as the Canadians, in their first semi-final at a World Cup in 36 years, struggled for offence as they were squeezed out by the US. Laeticia Amihere scored a team-high eight points for Canada.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champions will now march into the finals unbeaten in 29 successive World Cup games as they continue their bid for an 11th world title at 02:00 ET on Saturday 1 October.

Team USA will face China in the final as the Asian powerhouse defeated hosts Australia 61-59 in the second semi-final of the day.

Canada meanwhile will be up against Australia in the game for bronze.

In addition to claiming the world title the winner of the World Cup will also gain a qualification spot to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
