Sports Clothing – Fashion and Sport

Pupils will discover how sports clothing has evolved over time up to the present day, and explore the close links between fashion and sport.

Explore the intersection between sport and high-end fashion with this temporary exhibition. From the cumbersome tennis dresses of the 19th century to modern-day essentials like tracksuits and trainers, pupils will learn how clothes that were originally used for sport became everyday and even high-end fashion items.

During this visit, pupils will:

Draw links between sporting performance and sartorial elegance.

  • Gain an understanding of the role sport and fashion have played in areas such as women’s emancipation, self-identity and scientific innovation.
  • Discover the wealth of items in the Olympic heritage, sporting and clothing collections through images and costumes.
  • Delve into the universal values of Olympism and fashion.
  • Take part in discussions and exchange ideas.

This guided tour is for pupils between the ages of 11 and 15 (compulsory schooling).

NB: Entry to the exhibitions is not included when you book a workshop. Please also book a self-guided tour to access the exhibitions before or after the workshop.
