Information on the exhibition
For more than a century, major sporting events have been accompanied by images. To celebrate Lausanne Olympic Capital and the links between the Lausanne and the Olympic Movement, a selection of exclusive photos from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is being displayed this winter at the Train Station.
All of them come from the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s photo collections, which currently contain more than 900,000 images, the first of which date back to the Athens 1896 Games. The photos of the Paris 2024 Games, taken by the IOC’s official photographers, have been selected from among thousands of images. They capture the athletes’ speed and deftness of movement, their expressions of concentration and joy, and many highlights from across the events. The photographers have also experimented with the lavender hue that was the defining colour of Paris 2024 – a further demonstration of how sports photography opens up a host of creative possibilities.
In spring 2025, two of Lausanne’s museums will be shining a spotlight on sports photography, and the Olympic Games in particular. The “Sport in Focus” exhibition will showcase the vast photo collections of the Olympic Museum and the Photo Elysée museum.
