Bill Sefton won the NCAA pole vault for Southern Cal from 1935-37 (tied in 1935-36). He was also AAU champion in 1935 and 1937. His best year was 1937 when he broke the world record twice. The second time came in May at the Pacific Coast Conference meet, when he and 1936 gold medalist Earle Meadows both cleared 14-11 (4.54). There was no chance for them to attempt to become the first 15-foot vaulters that day, however, as the uprights could not be raised any higher.
Personal Best: PV – 4.54 (14-11) (1937).
