バイオグラフィー

At the 1972 München Olympics, defender Siegmar Wätzlich was an unused substitute for East Germany in the semi-final match against the Soviet Union. The teams drew 2-2, and during the extra-time period, neither tried to beat the other, as they knew a draw would result in both teams receiving bronze medals. Wätzlich was also a member of the 1974 World Cup squad that enjoyed a surprising 1-0 win over West Germany.

Wätzlich played 24 international matches between 1971-75, and also played three matches with the GDR Olympic team. Domestically, he played with SG Dynamo Dresden from 1965-75. In 1971, 1973 and 1976 he helped Dresden win the East German Championship as well as the East German Cup in 1971.

After his playing career, Wätzlich owned a pub until reunification. He then fell ill and a liver and a kidney transplant in 1998. He later turned to coaching with a lower level club.
