バイオグラフィー

A sprinter and long jumper who attended Louisiana State University, Sheila Echols competed at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics. She won gold in the 4x100 at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. Echols also won a silver medal in the sprint relay at the 1993 World Championships. She was a gold medalist in the 100 metres at the 1989 World Cup, and won a gold medal in the 4x100 relay at the 1987 Pan American Games.

Although she won her international medals as a sprinter, Echols was better known nationally as a long jumper. She competed in the long jump at the 1988 and 1992 Olympics, placing seventh in 1992 but not making the final in 1988. She was US Champion in the long jump in 1988 and was an eight-time runner-up in the event at either the US Nationals or the Olympic Trials. While at LSU, Echols won the 1987 NCAA Championship in the long jump, where she set her PR of 6.93 (22-9¼).
