East German show jumper and eventer Rudolf Beerbohm died in 2018 at the age of 76 years from an untreatable illness. The high point of his career was competing at the 1972 München Games where he placed fifth with the East German team and 11th in the individual eventing aboard Ingolf. He learned riding sports first from his uncle, who was a horse breeder, and later at the Gesellschaft für Sport und Technik (GST) in Halle-Kreuz. By profession, Beerbohm became a cow inseminator.
In 1965 Beerbohm won the East German show jumping national title with Schneeball. In 1971 he added his second national title this time in eventing aboard Hubertus. After the 1972 München Games GDR sports officials stopped supporting high performance riding sports as it was not considered compatible with the socialistic principles of the East German state.
