バイオグラフィー

Middle-distance runner Manfred Matuschewski became national coach for middle and long distances in the GDR from 1972-85. Due to his alleged involvement in doping he was sanctioned in 1990 after German reunification, and was then employed by a company dealing with sporting goods. He was originally educated as a machine fitter and eventually worked as a sports teacher.

Matuschewski competed in the 800 at the 1960 Olympics, placing sixth, and the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, reaching the semifinals. His greatest moments came in 1962 and 1966, when he won the European Championships, adding a bronze in 1969. In 1957 he won the European Cup in the 800 and 1,500. From 1960-66 and in 1969 he was East German Champion. In his youth Matuschewski was a hockey (field) player.

Personal Best: 800 – 1:45.7 (1969).
