Mackenzie ARNOLD

Arnold played club football in Norway and the USA before representing West Ham United for four seasons in the Women’s Super League (WSL) in England. She won the Players’ Player of the Season in the 2022-23 campaign, helping the Hammers finish eighth in the WSL with four clean sheets.

On the international stage, Mackenzie Arnold came to the fore in 2023. She won the player of the tournament at the Cup of Nations as the Matildas won the competition for a second time.

The Australian shot-stopper also excelled at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with four clean sheets, the most by any goalkeeper in that edition. Mackenzie Arnold emerged as the star with three saves in the penalty shootout against France in the quarter-final.

She earned the monikers “Australia’s Defence Minister” and “The Brick Wall” for her performances which took the Matildas to a fourth-placed finish, their best result at a World Cup.

Later, Arnold was ranked third, behind England’s Mary Earps and Spaniard Cata Coll, at the 2023 Best FIFA Football Awards.

At the 2024 Asian Olympic Qualifiers, she kept clean sheets in both legs of the final against Uzbekistan, which the Matildas won 13-0 to obtain a Paris 2024 Olympics berth.

Off the pitch, Mackenzie Arnold has been battling a hearing deficiency since she was 19 years old and relied on lip-reading, particularly in louder environments. However, in 2023, she switched to hearing aids for the first time.
