John Williams finished second at the 1969 World Championships but for the next several years he was never beaten. He won the World title in 1971 and 1972 as well as winning the World Field Championships in 1972. At the 1972 Olympics his score of 2,528 was a world’s best for the Double FITA Round. Williams attended Texas A & M briefly but eventually graduated from Cal State (San Bernadino) with a degree in business and management. He put the degree to good use as the product manager for Yamaha International’s archery division.
