バイオグラフィー

Jerzy Braun was born in what was then Western Prussia. He started rowing in 1927 for the rowing club Vistula, but later joined the Bydgoszcz Rowing Association and, after he went to Warszawa in 1936, for the Warszawa Rowing Association. He won a silver medal in coxed pairs and a bronze medal in coxed fours at Los Angeles in 1932. Braun competed in four European Championships – 1929, in his hometown, coxless fours bronze; 1931, eliminated in semi-finals of the eights; 1933, second in coxed pairs, and he was eliminated in the repêchage in the coxed fours in 1933-34. In addition to rowing he participated in swimming and water polo with the Dolphin Warsaw club. Braun won 13 Polish Championships in five boat classes (pairs +/-, fours +/-, eights) over 10 years.

During World War II Braun, a lieutenant, fought in September 1939 against the Germans. After the defeat he escaped to the Middle East and joined the Polish exile forces fighting in North Africa and Italy. He was wounded twice and was awarded the Cross of Valor. After the war he remained in Britain and worked in London for an electronics company.
