At the 1932 Final Trials, George Jefferson of UCLA placed third with a career best of 13-10 (4.21). The winner on that occasion was Bill Graber who posted a new world record of 14-4⅜ (4.37), but Graber could not repeat that form at the Olympics and Jefferson pushed the world record holder back in to fourth place.
