バイオグラフィー

Galina Bukharina took up athletics in 1959 and was on the Soviet national team from 1963-73. During her career, she competed at two Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in the 4x100 relay in 1968 and finishing fifth with the Soviet 4x100 relay team in 1972. He other international medals were golds in the 4x150 relay at the 1967 European Indoors and the 4x1 lap relay at the 1970 European Indoors; a silver in the 4x1 lap relay at the 1969 Euro Indoors; and bronzes in the 50 metres at the 1967 Euro Indoors, and in the 4x100 relay at the 1971 European Championships. During her career Bukharina was also a member of two Soviet 4x100 relay teams that set world records – first in August 1968 with 43.9 and then a month later clocking 43.6. Bukharina won four Soviet titles – 100 in 1970 m; and 4x100 relay in 1967 and 1971-72. After finishing her sports career, Bukharina worked as an athletics coach, serving as coach of the Soviet national team. Her most famous pupil was the 1980 Olympic gold medalist Nikolay Chernetsky. In 1990 Bukharina emigrated to the United States and later worked as a track coach and lecturer at the Texas State University, where her most famous pupils were Inez Turner and Juliet Campbell.
