Fritz Fischer was one of the most successful West German biathletes, competing in four consecutive Olympics from 1980 to 1992, winning one medal of each color in the relay. At the World Championships, he won five medals in the biathlon relay from 1981-1993, a gold (1993) and silver (1989) in the team event, and, on his own, won a bronze in 1989 in the 20 km biathlon event. In the World Cup he was the yearly champion in 1988 and runner-up in 1987. Fischer later became an assistant coach with the German’s men national team, and later ran a biathlon camp at Ruhpolding.
