Erik Blomqvist was one of many talented Swedish riflemen in the years before and after World War I. With the Swedish team he won a gold medal in the team free rifle, three positions in 1912. At the 1914 World Championships he was second in the individual kneeling military rifle. He had to wait for another six years to get another chance to win an individual medal but at Antwerpen in 1920 settled for a team bronze medal with the team prone military rifle after an exciting competition in which Sweden had to surrender to the US (gold) and South Africa after a shoot-out.
