バイオグラフィー

Breaststroke swimmer Egon Henninger captured two Olympic silver medals with the 4x100m medley relay team - in 1964 in Tokyo for the Unified German team, and in 1968 in Mexico City for the East German team. He was one of the best breaststroke swimmers from East Germany in the 1960s, but failed to win an individual Olympic medal. In 1960 in the Rome Olympic Games, he was fourth over 200m; fifth in 1964 in Tokyo; and in 1968 at Mexico-City, he was eighth over 100m and sixth over 200m.

At the European Championships Henninger won a gold medal with the medley relay in 1962, a silver medal in 1966, and over 200m breaststroke a bronze medal both in 1962 and 1966. In 1970, Henninger finished an unfortunate fourth in both the 100m and 200m breaststrokes. Domestically, he won eight titles over 100m (1962-66, and 1968-70), and seven over 200m (1960-63, 1966, 1968, 1970).

Henninger studied sports instructor education at the German High School for Physical Education in Leipzig, but then moved to the National Marines, where he rose to the rank of frigate commander.
