Eddie Flynn was National AAU champion in 1931 and 1932 in addition to winning the Olympic welterweight championship. His overall amateur record was 144 wins and no losses. After the Olympics he turned professional, and fought well for three years, losing only one fight in 15. But he was drafted in 1935 and served through World War II, never again fighting professionally Flynn attended Loyola (New Orleans), graduating in 1936 with a degree in dentistry at which he made his career.
