バイオグラフィー

David McKenzie was an Olympic fencer who competed at the 1956, 1960, and 1964 Games. He also won a silver medal in team foil at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. A lawyer and barrister, he quickly became involved in sports administration and was co-opted onto the IOC when he was only 38-years-old, in October 1974. He was President of the Olympic Council of New South Wales, the Australian Fencing Federation and the Australian Sports Council. McKenzie was also a Vice-President of the Australian Olympic Committee.

McKenzie served on the IOC until his death which occurred under unusual circumstances. After attending the Olympic Congress in Baden-Baden he went to the ANOC (Association of National Olympic Committees) Meeting in Milano, Italy, and on his return home, he was killed during a stopover in Honolulu. His body was found facedown in a changing room of a local bathhouse with the cause of death ruled manual strangulation. His killer or killers were never found.
