Conor McDavid has always been ahead of his peers. The Toronto native's parents lied about his age when he was was three, as participants needed to be five to play hockey. By the age of six, he was playing against nine-year-olds in Aurora.
After experiencing plenty of success, he was granted 'Exceptional Player' status by Hockey Canada, which allowed him to play at the major junior level one year early.
The dazzlingly quick and creative centre was attracting plenty of attention and in 2015, aged 19, he was picked first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the NHL Draft. Despite missing 37 games of his rookie campaign due to a fractured clavicle, he scored an impressive 48 points (16 goals, 32 assists) in 45 games.
McDavid took his game to another level in 2016-17, leading the league with 100 points (30 goals, and 70 assists). He has since gone on to win the Art Ross Trophy three times as the league's leading scorer, two Hart Memorial trophies as his team's MVP, and three Ted Lindsay Awards for being voted the best player by the NHL Player's Association.
