A fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics catapulted Aditi Ashok and golf to the next level as fans woke up early and stayed glued to their television sets to see if the youngster would make history for Indian golf.

Though it was not to be, Aditi Ashok has been a trailblazer for women’s golf in India since turning pro in 2016. She won the silver medal at the Asian Games 2023, Ladies European Tour titles and is a regular on the Ladies Professional Golf Tour (LPGA).

Born in a middle-class household in Bengaluru, Aditi Ashok was first attracted to golf when at the age of five she noticed the lush-green course at the Karnataka Golf Association. And once she accompanied her father to the course one morning, there was no looking back.

Juggling her studies at Bengaluru’s renowned Frank Anthony Public School and her passion for the sport, the Indian golfer started regularly practising at the course and played at local tournaments.

Aditi Ashok won her first state-level trophies, the Karnataka Junior and South Indian Junior Championships as a 13-year-old in 2011. She also went on to win the national amateur title that year.
