Two IOC Members announce resignations for personal reasons
The IOC Executive Board meeting today recognised the decisions of two IOC Members to resign for personal reasons. HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark and Athlete Representative Ms Kikkan Randall had both written to IOC President Thomas Bach.
In his letter to the IOC President, Prince Frederik thanked the IOC and added: “I can say wholeheartedly, it has been a privilege and an honour to serve under the Olympic flag and the wise words of its founder, Pierre de Coubertin. Excellence, Friendship and Respect are universal values that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Ms Randall, who has asked to remain a member of the Sustainability and Legacy Commission, wrote: “Unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances have made it difficult for me to contribute the energy and attention necessary to fulfil my IOC role at a level consistent with my values. I wish you and the IOC all the best in continuing to inspire the world through the positive values of Olympism.”
There will be a report from the IOC Members Election Commission – chaired by HRH, the Princess Royal – to the Executive Board on Thursday 10 June.
