WST Dubai Park 2024: Olympic skateboard champion Yosozumi Sakura tops qualifying on opening day as 28 women book quarter-final spots
The 21-year-old Japanese top qualifier put down a punchy 82.00 score to advance as the Paris 2024 Olympic Qualifier action got underway in the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday 28 February.

Yosozumi Sakura produced an 82.00 score in her opening run on Wednesday (28 February) to top women's qualifying at skateboarding's WST: Dubai Park 2024 event.
Olympic gold medallist Sakura's efforts gave her a cushion of 4.50 points over United States' Ruby Lilley (77.50) and 13-year-old compatriot Hasegawa Mizuho (76.65).
The top 28 from a deep field of 63 riders who took part in open qualifiers now proceed to the quarter-finals, where they will be joined by the four seeds for the event - Olympic silver medallist Hiraki Cocona, Kusaki Hinano, Brazilian Raicca Ventura, and Team USA's Minna Stess.
Sky Brown, who sits in third in the Olympic World Skate Rankings, is skipping the Dubai event to pursue a Paris 2024 surf quota spot at the 2024 ISA World Surfing Games in Puerto Rico.
The women's quarter-finals will take place on Friday 1 March, following the men's open qualifiers on Thursday.
The event, streaming live on Olympics.com and the official Olympics mobile app from the semi-final stage, doubles as a Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier with crucial ranking points on the line.
