The women's quarter-finals are set for the World Skateboarding Pro Tour 2023 stop in San Juan, Argentina, with 27 park skateboarders joining the top five ranked skaters in the world after the qualifying round on Wednesday (24 May).

The pro tour event is a pivotal stop as skaters look to punch their ticket to Paris 2024 via ranking points that will qualify them for the coming Olympic Summer Games.

Australian Arisa Trew was joined by Raicca Oliveira of Brazil and another Australian - Ruby Trew (no relation) - in the top three of qualifying, with Arisa throwing down a 71.21 score.

Recently-crowned world champion Sky Brown is the top seed among those pre-qualified for the quarters, joined by Olympic gold and silver medallists Yosozumi Sakura and Hiraki Kokona, as well as Kusaki Hinano and Bryce Wettstein.

Skaters' seedings are owed to their Olympic World Skate Ranking (OWSR). Skaters had two runs on Wednesday, while from the quarters onward it will be the best of three 45-second runs, or until there is a fall, and the best score will be counted.

Some 179 Olympic hopefuls arrived in San Juan this week, all bidding to claim as many ranking points as they can. The men's qualifying round is set for Thursday (25 May).

In the men's event, world champ Jagger Eaton and Olympic gold medallist Keegan Palmer are also set to compete in a field that is brimming with well-known talents.

Other notable names to qualify on Wednesday included Dora Pereira in fourth, Ruby Lilley in ninth and Minna Stess, who was 12th. Yndiara Asp, Jordyn Barratt (pictured above), Grace Marhoefer and Poppy Olsen also qualified.

Lola Tambling and Jordan Santana did not advance, however. See a full list of qualifying results here

Though the desert dust has barely settled on the 2022 Skateboarding Park World Championships in 2023, the second Paris 2024 qualifier is here and there are plenty of skaters ready to make their mark.

Looking ahead to the quarter-finals, it's hard to look past reigning World Champion Brown when it comes to calling a winner.

The 14-year-old Brit was imperious during the final in Sharjah finishing four points clear of Olympic silver medallist Hiraki in second place. The world title capped what has been a formidable run of form from the skater who, last year, picked up wins at the Summer X Games, Dew Tour and the STU Open in Brazil.

Beating Brown will be the task before the rest of the field and one that Olympic medallists Hiraki and Yosozumi know they can do, having achieved it in the past, most notably at Tokyo 2020.

Having visibly struggled at the World Champs before recovering to a third-place finish Yosozumi, who is expected to appear despite withdrawing from X Games Chiba 2023 with a late injury, will be looking for a strong performance in Argentina and many will expect her to deliver that.

Outside the skaters from Japan, the USA has plenty of talent all aiming to clinch a spot in the top three. Wettstein, Stess, Marhoeffer, and Lilley are all credible podium challengers and will do their best to deliver on that.
