Portugal’s Gustavo Ribeiro will not have his Olympic redemption in Rome, after being knocked out of the quarter-finals in the men’s street skateboarding event at World Skate Games Italia 2024 on Friday (13 September).
The world No.3 failed to make it to the final at Paris 2024, and as the highest-ranked skater still in the contest in Italy, there was an opportunity for the 23-year-old to make some amends. However, Ribeiro only managed a 51.11 on his first quarter-final run before falling on his second, denying him the chance to progress further at the world championship event.
In all, 16 of the 32 skaters advanced from the quarters to the semis. Argentina’s Matias Dell Olio qualified top (81.79) ahead of Slovakian Olympian Richard Tury in second (80.97).
Olympic medallist Kelvin Hoefler, who won silver at Tokyo 2020 in 2021, went through in 15th along with three skaters from Japan: Aoki Yukito, Sasaki Toa, and Watanabe Sena. They qualified in 10th, 13th, and 16th respectively.
The quarter-final was delayed to Friday morning after rainfall disrupted Thursday's action.
The women’s and men’s semi-finals - streaming live on Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the official Olympics app for mobile devices - are scheduled to take place throughout Friday afternoon. Further rain delays, however, are expected.
