Darcy Sharpe spearheaded a Canadian onslaught on home snow, claiming his first World Cup slopestyle victory in the Calgary Snow Rodeo on Sunday (12 February).

The 2020 Winter X Games champion upset some form men with a superb second-round run score of 88.85. Sharpe finished more than six points ahead of World Cup leader Dusty Henricksen (82.66) of the United States.

Cameron Spalding (77.33) took third place handing Canada a fourth slopestyle podium in Calgary.

“My first World Cup win since 2015, and that one was actually in the Big Air, so this is my first slopestyle World Cup win,” Sharpe told FIS. “So it means so much just to have that on the mantle. I am so happy about that.”

Earlier, Olympic silver medallist Julia Marino went top of the women's FIS World Cup slopestyle standings with a commanding victory in Calgary.

The 25-year-old American profited from the absence of some of the best riders on the circuit, leading the competition from the first run to claim consecutive victories in the premier slopestyle series after her win on home soil last week at Mammoth Mountain.

“I had a blast this week…it feels good. I have been having so much fun on my board lately and got back into it,” Marino told FIS.

She laid down the gauntlet in her first run with a score of 78.36 which proved good enough to clinch the title and move ahead of big air ace Reira Iwabuchi on the overall rankings.

Local hero and PyeongChang 2018 silver medallist Laurie Blouin made a valiant effort with a second-run score of 76.41 for second place to share the podium with compatriot Jasmine Baird (76.21).
