Sam Bennett reigned supreme once more in a sprint to take his second straight stage victory at the road cycling 2022 Vuelta a España in Breda, Netherlands, on Sunday (21 August).

The Bora-Hansgrohe sprinter, wearing the race's points classification green jersey, doubled his total with a strong finish after biding his time and not reacting to an early kick in the sprint. Denmark's Mads Pedersen, who finished second to Bennett yesterday and had been level on points with the Irishman heading into Stage 3, crossed the line in second once more. Bennett's lead in the green jersey race is now 117 points to Pedersen's 80.

Stage 3, a long 193.5km trek that began and finished in Breda but took the riders down to the Belgian border, was largely uneventful, save for a late crash for general classification favourite Richard Carapaz with around 18km to go. The Ecuadorian Olympic road race champion was brought back to the peloton by his teammates.

EF Education-EasyPost's Julius van den Berg keeps polka dot jersey mountains classification, while there was another change in the overall leader, with Mike Teunissen handing the race lead over to Jumbo-Visma teammate Edoardo Affini.

The riders now face a rest and transfer day before the race resumes on Tuesday with Stage 4.
