13 days ahead of their first FIFA World Cup game against Vietnam on 22 July, the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team (USWNT) notched a 2-0 victory over Wales on Sunday (9 July) in front of a capacity crowd - some 18,000 fans - at PayPal Field in San Jose, California.

The first-ever meeting between the two countries, saw a nil-nil score through half time.

But the U.S.'s Trinity Rodman found the back of the net in the 76th minute giving her squad the 1-0 advantage with just under a quarter hour remaining. Rodman struck again 11 minutes later, giving the defending World Cup champion an insurance goal as the clock wound down.

The USWNT is hoping to become the first - men's or women's - to win the FIFA World Cup three consecutive times.
