U.S. squad for 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup announced with help from President Biden, Mikaela Shiffrin, and others - Full USWNT roster

A starstudded lineup of politicans and celebrities announced another starstudded lineup Wednesday (21 June), as U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden kicked off the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team's 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup roster reveal.

"For nearly 40 years the U.S. women's national soccer team has epitomized what it means to a champion," said Joe Biden in a video posted on Twitter. "From lifting trophies to fighting for gender equity, these women have been a source of inspiration to Americans of all ages - our family included."

"Joe and I can't wait to watch this team soar at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup," added Jill Biden.

The Bidens were joined by several noteable celebrities including Olympic gold medallists Mikaela Shiffrin, Shaquille O'Neal, and Mia Hamm. Music superstar Taylor Swift and actress Blake Lively were also part of the announcement.

The 23-woman strong roster includes veterans Megan Rapinoe, Alex Morgan and Kelley O'Hara, who will each be appearing their fourth FIFA Women's World Cup. The USA team is a mix of old and new with a total of nine women who won Team USA's second-straight title in 2019 set to play with 12 newcomers making their major tournament debut in Australia and New Zealand.

The U.S. team will open their campaign on 22 July in Auckland against Vietnam before facing the Netherlands on 27 July in Wellington. The last match of the group stage will see them play Portugal on 1 August.

Midfielders: Savannah DeMelo (Racing Louisville); Julie Ertz (Angel City); Lindsey Horan (Olympique Lyon); Rose Lavelle (OL Reign); Kristie Mewis (NJ/NY Gotham); Ashley Sanchez (Washington Spirit); Andi Sullivan (Washington Spirit).
