World titles and the first chance to cement National Olympic Committee (NOC) quota spots for trampoline at Paris 2024 ratchet up the tension at the Birmingham, UK-hosted event for the more than 1,000 gymnasts from 50 countries taking part from 9-12 November.

Trampoline is the only Olympic discipline at the championships in the Utilita Arena, but the world's best in tumbling and double mini trampoline will be decided, too.

Fifteen world titles will be won across all disciplines with six of those for trampoline in men's and women's individual, synchro and team events. A minimum of four and maximum of eight gymnasts will obtain quotas to next summer’s Olympic Games in men’s and women’s individual trampoline.

The eight highest-ranked male and eight highest-ranked female athletes based on the results of the finals will each qualify one quota place for their NOC, with a maximum of one athlete per NOC.

Sixteen men and 16 women will ultimately participate in trampoline in Paris with up to half coming from the 2023 World Championships. The rest secure spots via the 2023-24 World Cup series, which began February 2023 and concludes April 2024. The remaining places are obtained via gymnasts' respective continental meets in the first half of 2024.

As NOCs have the exclusive authority for the representation of their respective countries at the Olympic Games, athletes' participation at the Paris Games depends on their NOC selecting them to represent their delegation at Paris 2024.

So who could challenge for the trampoline titles at the 37th edition of the World Trampoline Gymnastics Championships, and who might secure Paris 2024 quota berths for their NOCs?

Who to watch at the 2023 Trampoline World Championships

All the 2022 individual and synchro world champions in trampoline are back to defend their titles.

Japan's Mori Hikaru came away with two titles – in the women's individual and synchro, the latter with Megu Uyama – to make it six world titles for the 24-year-old. After struggling with the pressure at her home Games at Tokyo 2020 and not making the final, Mori has a new goal in mind – gold at Paris 2024.

Qualification is the first step, though, as it is for all.

The home favourite in Birmingham will be two-time Olympic medallist and 2021 individual world champion, Bryony Page, who claimed an emotional silver in the individual discipline at Rio 2016, the first British trampolinist to win an Olympic medal.

Bronze in Japan means the 2022 world silver medallist behind Mori will be hoping for a qualification berth to Paris to have the chance of adding an Olympic gold medal to her set.

The third-placed gymnast in the individual event last time out, Hu Yicheng, will be joined by reigning Olympic champion Zhu Xueying, the pair part of the squad who also secured gold in the women's trampoline team event at the 2022 Worlds for People's Republic of China.

In the men's event, history-making world champion, Dylan Schmidt is back to defend the title he won in Bulgaria, to become the first world champion in men's trampoline from New Zealand.

The Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist and 2014 Youth Olympic champion will be up against a strong Chinese team, led by 2021 World champion Yan Langyu and rising stars He Longyu, Wang Zisai, and Li Yuming. Having won every individual world trampoline title from 2006 to 2021, the Chinese men will be looking to wrest back the title from the Kiwi.

Allan Morante of France, the 2022 World silver medallist, will also be looking for medalware in the lead-up to his home Games, while the Japan duo of Ishikawa Yamato, the bronze medallist, and the 2021 silver medallist Nishioka Ryusei could also feature come podium time.

Gymnasts from the Americas will have quite the challenge on their hands to perform well with the trampoline Worlds happening less than a week after competition concludes at the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
