Tokyo Olympics sailing: Vishnu Saravanan, Nethra Kumanan slip down after day 2 qualifying
Vishnu Saravanan, who was 14th in the laser class after day 1, moved down to 25th while Nethra Kumanan dropped down from 27th to 28th in the laser radial.
Indian sailors disappointed in day 2 qualifying races at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.
While Nethra Kumanan dropped down one spot in the laser radial class standings from the opening day, Vishnu Saravanan fell 11 places in the laser class standings.
Nethra Kumanan, in women’s laser radial, (one person dinghy) class, finished race 3 – her first race of the second day – in 15th place. In race 4, however, the Indian struggled, finishing 40th.
A total of 44 boats are participating in the event held at the Enoshima Yacht Harbour.
The results saw Nethra Kumanan drop down a place to 28th in the overall laser radial standings with a net total of 64.
Nethra Kumanan was in the 27th spot after the first day, having finished 33rd and 16th in race 1 and race 2, respectively.
Vishnu Saravanan, India’s entry in the men’s laser (one person dinghy) class, similarly, endured a tough second day of qualifying races.
The Indian sailor was placed 14th in the overall in his event after the opening day, started the second day with a 20th place finish in race 2. The race was rescheduled from day one due to a typhoon in Japan.
In race 3, Vishnu Saravanan claimed the 24th spot in the 35-boat competition.
After the second day, Vishnu Saravanan stood 25th in the overall standings with a net total of 34 points.
The top 10 sailors at the end of the qualifying races in each category compete in the medal rounds.
