India lost to defending champions Korea in the quarter-final of the men’s archery team event at the Tokyo Olympics on Monday.

The Indian trio of Atanu Das, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav went down 6-0 to the Korean team of Kim Je Deok, Oh Jin-Hyek and Kim Woojin at the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field.

Korea, the most successful nation in archery at the Summer Games, were dominant throughout the contest, hitting the bullseye consistently.

On the other hand, Atanu Das struggled to find his mark and failed to hit a single 10 in the entire match.

The top-seeded Koreans opened the proceedings with a near-perfect 59 out of a possible 60. The Indians could only muster up 54 to give Korea a 2-0 lead.

The Indian men did better in the second set, shooting a 57 but Korea responded with a 59, including two inner 10s, to extend the lead to 4-0.

Although Pravin Jadhav shot an inner 10 in the third set, Atanu and Tarundeep missed the centre of the target in their attempts. India’s 54 was comfortably beaten by a 56 from Korea, putting an end to the Indian archers’ campaign in the men’s team event.

Korea have already clinched the gold in the women’s and mixed team events and are favourites to grab the top honour in the men’s categories.

India, meanwhile, are still in the fray in the women’s and men’s individual events.

Earlier in the day, the Indian men had defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 in a tight round of 16 match with all four sets decided by a single point.

Atanu Das and Co. won the first two sets 55-54 and 52-51 but lost the third 56-57. The Indians were able to seal the match with a 55-54 to set up the clash with Korea.
