Syed Modi International 2024 badminton: PV Sindhu beats Wu Luo Yu to end two-year-long title drought
This was the Indian badminton player’s first BWF World Tour title since July 2022. Lakshya Sen also bagged the men’s singles title. Know all winners.

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu won her first BWF World Tour title since July 2022 after beating the People’s Republic of China’s Wu Luo Yu in the women’s singles final at the Syed Modi International 2024 badminton tournament in Lucknow on Sunday.
PV Sindhu, 18th in the badminton rankings, eased past her 119th-ranked Chinese opponent courtesy of a 21-14, 21-16 scoreline.
The Indian badminton player last won a title on tour at the 2022 Singapore Open. She had also bagged the Syed Modi crown earlier that year.
Since then, Sindhu made the finals at the 2023 Spain Masters Super 300 and 2024 Malaysia Masters Super 500 but ended up losing the summit clashes.
Paris 2024 semi-finalist Lakshya Sen, meanwhile, secured the men’s singles crown at the expense of Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh in the men’s singles final.
Sen, ranked 14th in the world, took just over 30 minutes to beat world No. 39 Jason Teh by an impressive 21-6, 21-7 scoreline. This was the Indian shuttler’s fifth BWF World Tour triumph and the first since last year’s Canada Open.
Commonwealth Games bronze medal-winners Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly also beat China’s Bao Li Jing and Li Qian 21-18, 21-11 in the final to secure their second BWF World Tour title.
The Indian duo’s maiden win came at the Odisha Open two years ago.
Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost out on the mixed doubles title after going down to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran 18-21, 21-14, 21-8 in a 52-minute final encounter.
Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K also stopped one win short of the men’s doubles crown after losing the final against Chinese duo Huang Di and Liu Yang 21-14, 19-21, 21-17 following a closely-fought affair.
