Simone Biles pulled out of the artistic gymnastics women's individual all-around a day after she stepped aside midway through the team final, putting her mental health first in the midst of the Olympic Games.

"At the end of the day, I have to do what's right for me and focus on my mental health, and not jeopardise my health and well-being," Biles said on Tuesday night (27 July).

As the conversation around athletes' mental health has ramped up again, Biles' Rio 2016 teammate Aly Raisman, a gold medallist in gymnastics, too, spoke out on social media about the pressures athletes face:

"Just a friendly reminder: Olympic athletes are human and they’re doing the best they can," wrote gymnast Aly Raisman, Biles' Rio 2016 teammate and a gold medallist herself. "It’s REALLY hard to peak at the right moment and do the routine of your life under such pressure. Really hard."

As part of the continued support put in place for athletes, the International Olympic Committee is providing a mental health service for all athletes called MentallyFit, a 24-hour hotline that is "free and confidential" for "mental health and well-being support" to athletes in over 70 languages during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The initiative is part of Athlete365, which is an IOC initiative created by athletes, for athletes. It's purpose? "To support athletes throughout their journey in sport on and off the field."

A different kind of support could be felt from Raisman and other athletes who have face Olympic and elite sport pressure from around the globe. Added gymnast Laurie Hernandez:

"I'm hoping that Simone is OK. ... [We're] letting her know that we support her, [and] this is understandable."

We round up some of the reaction from around the web over the past 24 hours.
